Introduction

Aim for Algebra is a conceptually based, standards-aligned supplementary program organized in a modular format allowing for easy implementation, flexible programming, and individualized student placement. It was developed by WestEd® as an intervention/prep curriculum to boost achievement in algebra for all students, particularly those for whom algebra has been especially challenging.

Aim for Algebra increases achievement by focusing on the typical barriers to success in algebra and using purposeful sequencing and scaffolding of ideas to provide deeper comprehension. It uses multiple strategies to reduce student misconceptions and manipulatives for hands-on learning.

Aim for Algebra provides targeted instruction that will fill the gaps in students’ mathematical knowledge and support a deeper understanding of key algebraic concepts. It builds on a research-based learning theory. Aim for Algebra’s purposeful sequencing and scaffolding of tasks allows students to bridge the conceptual gaps created by traditional algebra curricula.
